Our Deacons are ordained lay people who partner with you in prayer and praises through the circumstances and seasons of your life. Deacons will encourage and support you in times of loss, grief, illness, or hardship, and will celebrate with you in times of rejoicing. We do this by extending care in both prayerful and tangible ways:
CARE in Difficult Times
“Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34)
Visitations: We may visit you in the hospital when you are ill and will mobilize all our Deacons to pray for your recovery.
Meal Deliveries: We can arrange for meals to be delivered to your home during times of sickness or stress.
Deacon Fund: Through the generosity of our congregation, the Deacon Fund provides short-term financial assistance for life essential needs (food, shelter, clothing, medical care) to active members of MVPC. Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis following specific guidelines.
Prayer: Deacons are prayer warriors, and we would love to pray with you and for you by phone, in person, or through sharing with our church prayer team if you request it; we will uplift you through cards, emails or texts as we walk alongside you.
CARE During Changing Seasons of Life
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
Gift for the birth of a new baby: We share your joy through the gift of a baby blanket or cap, hand-knitted by women in our HUGS ministry, and delivered by your Deacon.
Memorials: Deacons bring Christ’s love and compassion to the grieving family by overseeing arrangements at the church and supporting them spiritually and emotionally. Deacons provide greeters, ushers, and a guest book attendant for the service, and host a simple reception following the service if requested.
CARE For Our Church Body
Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”(Hebrews 10: 24)
Sacrament of Communion: Our Chancel team prepares the elements for Communion, and together, Deacons and Elders serve Communion during worship service; for those unable to attend, we bring home Communion to you.
Greeters on Sundays and special events: Our Deacons, both past, and present, will often be those greeting you with warm and welcoming smiles, answering questions, and guiding you to the people and places you wish to see.
Help new members become integrated into church life: We help you get plugged into church life according to your interests and the gifts God has given you.
Prayer after Worship Services: We partner with you in prayer, individually and confidentially, after Sunday worship.
MVPC’s congregation is divided into twelve geographic areas, each served by two deacons, who care for members and active visitors living in their area.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:10-11
